It's too bad that Amy Poehler has taken her leave from Saturday Night Live, because the latest news out of American International Group (AIG: sentiment, chart, options) would make for a fine installment of "Really?!? with Seth and Amy." Once again, the insurance company was caught sending its top executives to a luxury resort, ostensibly to discuss how to spend its latest bailout-bucks windfall from the federal government. Say it with me: Really, AIG?

According to reports, employees of the ailing insurance giant tried to avoid repeating their past mistake -- not by forgoing the luxury retreat, but simply by trying to conceal the fact that they worked for AIG. One hotel employee noted, "We can't even say the word [AIG]."

While some are now calling for the resignation of Chief Executive Edward Liddy, a company spokesman tried to smooth things over by saying that the nature of the event was "mistaken" for a swanky retreat. Instead, said the flack, it's "the kind of thing we have to do to run our business." So, for those of you who are job-hunting in this bleak economy, you might want to check out the insurance sector -- spa retreats are apparently mandatory.

As a final slap in the face, Liddy commented today that he wouldn't think much of the U.S. government running AIG. "Look how they have run the government," he said breezily, as though unaware that his company is surviving only by the grace of government funding.
